The term “paradise” has always served as a vehicle for projecting unfulfilled desires. Fertility, luxuriant growth, abundance, freedom, peace or tranquillity – the range of ideas is as diverse as the situations of those yearning for an ideal state of affairs. It is not surprising that the exploration of the theme of paradise has constituted an exciting field of work for artists down through the ages: After all, the ideal is concealed in the wishes and aspirations of each of us.
